About MealStack
MealStack is a nutrition practice management platform built for Indian dietitians, nutritionists, and clinics. It brings the everyday work of a nutrition practice, meal planning, client tracking, and professional reporting, into one place, on a food database made for how India actually eats.
Why we built MealStack
Most nutrition software is built around Western foods and Western eating patterns. Indian practitioners were left stitching together spreadsheets, generic calorie apps, and food tables that did not include dal, roti, idli, or the regional dishes their clients actually eat. Portion sizes were in cups and ounces, not katoris and pieces. Billing meant manual invoices with no GST support. Plans were shared as WhatsApp screenshots.
We built MealStack to close that gap: an Indian-first food database, meal planning that understands Indian meal composition (a roti needs a dal, an idli needs sambar), a branded client portal, and GST-ready invoicing, so a dietitian can run their whole practice without leaving the tool.
What MealStack does
- Meal planning with real-time nutrient totals, portion switching, and food combos for composite Indian meals.
- A 9,000+ Indian food database with calories, macros, and micronutrients per 100g, searchable in English and regional names.
- A client portal where clients view plans, log intake, and message their dietitian, under the practitioner's own branding.
- Professional reporting and GST invoicing built for Indian nutrition practices.
- Free public tools such as our calorie, BMI, and protein calculators, and a public food database.
Our food database
Accurate nutrition data is the foundation of everything MealStack does, so we are careful about where our data comes from. Our food composition data is drawn from publicly available, authoritative sources:
- IFCT 2017 (Indian Food Composition Tables) and INDB 2024, published by the National Institute of Nutrition under the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR-NIN).
- USDA FoodData Central, from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, for foods not covered by the Indian tables.
- Open Food Facts for branded packaged products, used under the Open Database License.
We run automated checks that compare the values in our database against the original source files to catch import errors and drift. You can read the full detail, including our source attributions and accuracy limits, on our food data disclaimer. MealStack is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of these organisations.
Who MealStack is for
MealStack is used by solo dietitians and nutritionists running their own practice, and by clinics and wellness centres managing a team of practitioners. Practitioners can also publish recipes and food entries to our community library for other professionals to reference.
Part of Workfile
MealStack is built and operated by Workfile, which builds software for independent professionals and small businesses. MealStack is Workfile's product for the nutrition and dietetics field.
